The 87th public meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN87) is taking place on the island of Bali, Indonesia, from 17 to 22 October 2026.

The conference brings together representatives of the global Internet community, technical experts, domain industry professionals, and other stakeholders to discuss key issues related to the development of the global Internet.

Key topics include the development of the Domain Name System (DNS), cybersecurity, enhancing the stability and resilience of Internet infrastructure, and improving Internet governance mechanisms. Particular attention is also being paid to emerging technological trends and strengthening international cooperation in digital development.

The event features working sessions, discussions, and meetings addressing the technical, organizational, and strategic aspects of the global domain name and IP address systems.

Hosting ICANN87 in Bali provides participants with an opportunity to exchange expertise, discuss existing challenges, and develop collaborative approaches to further advancing a secure, stable, and accessible Internet.

#ICANN87

DNSSEC Key Successfully Rolled Over in the Internet Root Zone

On October 11, 2026, the planned rollover of the Key Signing Key (KSK) for the Domain Name System (DNS) root zone took place. The new KSK-2024 key began signing the root zone, replacing the previous KSK-2017 key. The update was announced by ICANN and the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

The root key rollover is an important measure for maintaining the security, stability, and resilience of the global domain name system. The KSK plays a key role in DNSSEC, enabling the validation of DNS data and protecting it against tampering.

The new KSK-2024 key has the key tag 38696. It was published in advance to allow operators of DNS resolvers that support DNSSEC validation to update their trust settings and prepare their systems for the transition.

According to ICANN, the new key began being used as scheduled at 14:00 UTC on October 11, 2026. ICANN reported no signs of widespread infrastructure disruption associated with the rollover at the time of publication, while continuing to monitor the situation.

Operators of DNS resolvers are advised to verify that the new key is present in their trust anchor configuration. If the required key is missing, DNSSEC validation failures and domain name resolution problems may occur.

The planned KSK rollover is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the cryptographic security of DNS and ensure the reliable operation of the global Internet infrastructure.

The event was held in the format of a thematic fair, bringing together national culture, traditions, gastronomy, interactive activities, and modern digital technologies.

The team’s main goal was to showcase the Syrdarya Region from a modern perspective by combining its natural heritage, culture, and technology. The atmosphere of the region was conveyed through national costumes, a traditional dastarkhan, and thematic decoration of the exhibition area.

The highlight of the gastronomic presentation was the famous Syrdarya melons — one of the region’s distinctive culinary symbols. They allowed guests not only to learn more about Syrdarya, but also to literally experience its taste.

Guests could discover more about the region through an interactive quiz and a presentation covering the nature, history, culture, and unique features of the Syrdarya Region. Participants answered questions about the region and had a chance to win special prizes.

A dedicated part of the program focused on the digital component. Especially for the event, the team developed an online game inspired by one of the region’s symbols — fishing in the Syrdarya River. In the game, the virtual catch was converted into special in-game coins called “fish coins,” which could then be exchanged for treats.

The game developed by the team became an unconventional way to introduce guests to the region, bringing together the theme of the Syrdarya River and modern IT technologies.

Participation in the competition allowed the .UZ Domain Administration team to showcase the Syrdarya Region from different perspectives — through its history, culture, flavors, hospitality, and digital future.

Syrdarya is steppe, water, flavor, hospitality, and technology.
